Castellon Airport work to be stopped

In spite of an order this week from the Infrastructure Ministry, work on Castellón airport will go ahead. Although the ministry claims no building permit has been issued, provincial government chiefs say the plans were authorised in 2002 and the ministry has no right to halt work.
SL Aerocas, the company created by the provincial government of Castellón and the Valencia government to carry out the scheme, has not commented, but work on the site is continuing at its usual pace. Ministry spokesmen say this is the second time they has ordered works to be halted, however, insiders say that when Francisco Álvarez Cascos was running the ministry, the airport project met all the environmental requirements. The same sources say another study will be carried out prior to the airport being opened to the public.
